Misión | Mission:

El proyecto “ Learning English & Spanish TOGETHER ” tiene la misión de crear un puente intercultural entre nuestros estudiantes y nuestra comunidad, con énfasis en el reconocimiento del valor de la diversidad lingüística y las diferencias culturales, promoviendo un sentido de inclusión y pertenencia.

The project “Learning English & Spanish TOGETHER” has the mission to create a Cross Cultural Bridge between our students and our community with emphasis on recognizing the value of language diversity and cultural differences, and the promotion of a sense of inclusiveness and belonging.

Visión | Vision:

Nos gustaría convertir el proyecto TOGETHER en algo más permanente; un “e���貹������” abierto donde todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad que desean aprender o mejorar su dominio del inglés tienen la oportunidad de hacerlo sin restricciones de nacionalidad, estatus migratorio y situación económica, años en el área o en el trabajo. Queremos crear un “e���貹������” donde las familias sean bienvenidas, los adultos y los niños puedan aprender; un “e���貹������”que ejemplifica cómo �鶹��ý�Ŷ� trabaja TOGETHER para lograr un futuro mejor y más sostenible para todos.

We would like to transition the TOGETHER project into something more permanent; an open “s�貹����” where all members of our community who wish to learn or improve their English proficiency have the opportunity to do so without restrictions of nationality, immigration status, and economic situation, years in the area or at work. We want to create a ��ٱ貹����” where families are welcome, adults and children can learn; a ��ٱ貹����” that exemplifies how �鶹��ý�Ŷ� works TOGETHER to achieve a better and more sustainable future for everyone.

Somos aprendices de por vida que estamos creciendo y evolucionando constantemente. We are lifelong learners who are constantly growing and evolving.

Tenemos una enorme libertad para crear el “e���貹������” lecciones que sean atractivas y efectivas para nuestros estudiantes. We have enormous freedom to create the “s�貹����” and lessons that are engaging and effective for our students.

Inclusividad | Inclusivity:

Aceptamos y apoyamos las diferencias con la voluntad de escuchar las perspectivas, valores y creencias de los demás, permitiéndoles coexistir con los suyos, ya sean similares o diferentes. We are accepting and supportive of difference with a willingness to hear out other’s perspectives, values, and beliefs allowing them to coexist with your own whether similar or different.

Empatía | Empathy:

Cultivamos la capacidad de relacionarnos con las perspectivas de los demás para reconocer y comprender sus sentimientos y necesidades. We cultivate the ability to relate to the perspectives of others in order to acknowledge and understand their feelings and needs.

Integración social | Social integration:

Enseñamos inglés para promover valores, relaciones e instituciones que permitan a todas las personas participar en la vida social, económica, cultural y política basada en la igualdad de derechos, la equidad y la dignidad. Aprendemos español para poder entenderte y hablar tu idioma. We teach English to promote values, relations, and institutions that enable all people to participate in social, economic, cultural and political life based on equality of rights, equity, and dignity. We learn Spanish to be able to understand you and speak your language.

Valor | Bravery

Nunca guardamos silencio ante la injusticia, incluso ante la adversidad. ¡Siempre  hablamos por lo que es correcto! We never keep silent in the face of injustice even in the face of adversity. We always speak up for what is right!

Familia | Family:

Somos un grupo de estudiantes, profesores, miembros del personal y de la comunidad de �鶹��ý�Ŷ�, unidos por nuestros valores (aprendizaje, creatividad, inclusión, empatía, integración social y valentía) con la convicción de crear un puente intercultural a través de la diversidad lingüística, construyendo relaciones entre nosotros y con todos aquellos que deseen aprender inglés. We are a group of �鶹��ý�Ŷ�’s students, professors, staff and community members, united by our values (learning, creativity, inclusivity, empathy, social integration, and bravery ) with the conviction to create a Cross-Cultural bridge through the language diversity, building relationships between us and with everyone willing to learn English.

Historia | History

�鶹��ý�Ŷ� tiene un fuerte compromiso con la diversidad, la equidad y la inclusión. Juntos, nos comprometemos con el pluralismo, cultivando una comunidad que respeta la diferencia y promueve un sentido de inclusión y pertenencia. El Centro de Lenguas y Culturas (CLC) se estableció (2011) como un puente intercultural con el mundo para nuestros estudiantes y la comunidad en �鶹��ý�Ŷ� a través de la diversidad lingüística.

�鶹��ý�Ŷ� has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Together, we commit ourselves to pluralism, cultivating a community that respects difference and promotes a sense of inclusion and belonging. The Center for Languages ​​and Cultures (CLC) was established (2011) as an intercultural bridge with the world for our students and the community in �鶹��ý�Ŷ� through linguistic diversity.

Diferentes proyectos se han desarrollado como son tutorías y traducciones, así como programas de servicio social con �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Migran Center. Los resultados de la CLC habían sido positivos. Sin embargo, solo estabamos ayudando a mitigar algunas necesidades. En el otoño de 2017, el Defensor Comunitario de la Villa de �鶹��ý�Ŷ�, Tim McMahon, identificó cómo el huracán María hizo que nuestra comunidad hispanohablante creciera a un ritmo más rápido. Al contactarse con Michell Perez del Programa de colaboración para la salud de la comunidad materno infantil (MICHC) y descubrió que estos ciudadanos tienen un acceso limitado al aprendizaje de inglés, lo que hace que tengan dificultades para integrarse en la comunidad.

Different projects have been developed, such as tutorials and translations, as well as social service programs with �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Migran Center. The results of the CLC had been positive. However, we have only helped to mitigate some needs. In the fall of 2017, Tim McMahon, advocate of the �鶹��ý�Ŷ� Villa community, identified how Hurricane Maria made our Spanish-speaking community grow at a faster pace. When he contacted Michell Perez of the Collaborative Program for the Health of the Community of Mothers and Children (MICHC) and discovered that these citizens have limited access to learn English, which hinders their integration into the community.

En la primavera de 2018 se realizó una encuesta y se llegó a la conclusión de que los adultos con la necesidad de aprender inglés son miembros de familias y para asistir a clases necesitan ayuda para cuidar a sus hijos. Además, estos niños también necesitan ayuda con el trabajo de la escuela que sus padres no pueden darles. Así es como Jennifer Haines, Coordinadora de Colocaciones Escolares Ella Cline Shear of Education, se une al proyecto con estudiantes en el campo de la educación.

In the spring of 2018, a survey was conducted and it was concluded that adults with the need to learn English are members of families and to attend classes they need help to take care of their children. In addition, these children also need help in school work that their parents can not give them. This is how Jennifer Haines, Coordinator for Ella Cline Shear of Education, joins the project with students in the field of education.

TOGETHER es una alternativa donde nuestros estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad rompen las barreras lingüísticas y adoptan la diversidad cultural creando un cambio permanente.
